Position: Criminal & Motoring Defence Solicitors Advocate / In-House Counsel

The Firm

Kang & Co Solicitors is a Legal 500 law firm which is based in Birmingham City Centre which represents clients for the full range of Private Criminal Defence and Motoring Offences.

Whilst the Head Office is in Birmingham, the firm has branch offices in Milton Keynes and London. The firm is instructed by clients throughout England and Wales, and as such the firm represents clients in the Magistrates’ and Crown Court on a daily basis across England and Wales.

The Role

Due to the position Kang & Co Solicitors holds within the private criminal defence / motoring sector, the firm is growing, and there is now a position available for a Criminal & Motoring Defence Solicitor Advocate / In-House Counsel.

The role is based within our Birmingham Office, however the successful candidate will be required to travel to Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court, and the Police Station (Voluntary Police Station Interviews) throughout England & Wales when not in the office.

The role would ideally be suitable for a person living near Birmingham and looking to move away from Legal Aid and weekend work.

Travelling expenses will be paid at 45 pence per mile from door to door and parking expenses will also be reimbursed. Overnight accommodation arrangements will be made when attending Court Hearings or Police Stations that are a substantial distance from where the successful candidate lives.

The successful candidate will be required to represent clients at the Magistrates’ Court for:

  • Sentence Hearings
  • Exceptional Hardship Applications
  • Special Reasons Hearings
  • Mention Hearings
  • Criminal & Motoring Offence Trials

If the successful candidate has rights of audience in the Crown Court, they will also be required to represent clients in the Crown Court for:

  • PTPH
  • PTR

The role would ideally be suitable for a person living near Birmingham with at least 4 year’s experience of working within a criminal defence law firm as a paralegal, with a proven track record of exceeding performance targets.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Provide administrative assistance
  • Opening and closing client files
  • Undertake legal research
  • Undertake work necessary to build up, maintain and manage their own caseload
  • Answering and responding to new enquiry calls
  • Advising clients via telephone / zoom / in person case conferences

The successful candidate shall have at least three years’ legal secretarial experience. They must have excellent computer / IT and organisational skills. The role would ideally be suitable for a person living near Birmingham and has chosen criminal electives for the undergraduate degree and LPC and a desire to undertake a training contract within a criminal defence law firm.
